Our Headteacher, Mrs Kayleigh Smith, is supported by Dan Rosser, Wootton Park Academy Trust’s Chief Executive Officer and founding Principal of Overstone Gate Primary School’s sister school, the ‘Outstanding’ Wootton Park School.
Having joined Wootton Park School as Assistant Principal when it opened in 2016 and been promoted to Vice Principal in 2022, Mrs Smith has extensive senior leadership experience at our sister school, where she played a pivotal role in developing the primary phase provision.
With over 15 years of experience in early years and primary education, as staff Governor for four years, and as part of the initial team who were successful with the bid for the new primary school, we are confident that Mrs Smith’s commitment to the Trust, sustained track record of excellence in leadership and vision for Overstone Gate Primary School will drive the school’s success and growth.
“I am honoured to be appointed as the Headteacher of Overstone Gate Primary School in the growing community of Overstone Leys. I have spent the past nine years as a senior leader with Wootton Park Academy Trust, where I played a pivotal role in developing the primary phase provision at Wootton Park School, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and an exciting curriculum.
With over 15 years of experience in early years and primary education, I have been dedicated to creating a nurturing and inspiring learning environment where every child can thrive.
Educating the next generation on how to care for their environment and make positive choices for the future is a focus for us at Overstone Gate, equipping them with the knowledge and values to become environmentally conscious and socially responsible.
I am incredibly excited to see our new learners embark on their journey at Overstone Gate. There is nothing more rewarding than watching children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence, and I look forward to supporting each and every learner as they take their first steps. I am passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive environment for our whole school community, ensuring the highest aspirations and ambitions for all and enabling all our learners to achieve to the fullest of their ability and thrive.”

Mrs Ciara Picton has over nine years of experience in teaching from Reception to Year 2, has been a part of a senior leadership team with responsibility for Key Stage 1 and is also an experienced Year 2 moderator across Derbyshire.

Outside of school, I love to spend time with my family (preferably outside). I enjoy reading, exploring National Trust properties and going for long walks. I very much look forward to working with all of you to ensure that your child will make the very best of all that school has to offer.”

“I look forward to getting to know our new families and creating a welcoming, warm and efficient environment at Overstone Gate Primary School!”

After qualifying with my NASENCo award in 2021, I’ve had the privilege of supporting children with a wide range of needs, working closely with families, staff, and external agencies to create inclusive, nurturing learning environments. I’m now incredibly excited to bring my passion and experience to Overstone Gate Primary School.
“With several years’ experience working in the Wootton Park Trust, I look forward to channeling the vision and ethos created and becoming part of the school community to ensure every child feels valued, supported and able to thrive”
